INTRODUCTION
Dharohar Foundation: Empowering Villages and Reviving Dying Crafts
At Dharohar Foundation, we are driven by a mission to address two critical issues that are not only impacting rural communities but also endangering our cultural heritage: migration and the decline of traditional handicrafts.
In rural India, farming supports families for only half the year, forcing villagers to migrate to cities for labor work, leading to overburdened urban areas and disrupted rural communities. This migration disrupts families, harms children’s education, and erodes village life. At Dharohar Foundation, we empower villagers, especially women, by offering training in traditional crafts like weaving and embroidery, enabling them to earn income from home year-round. This not only provides economic stability but also preserves our cultural heritage, helping to reduce migration and keep villages thriving.
Many traditional handicrafts are on the brink of extinction as younger generations decline to take up these family-based crafts. At Dharohar Foundation, we provide a platform for artisans to showcase and sell their work, ensuring they receive recognition and fair income. We actively promote these crafts to clients seeking unique, authentic products, helping create a market for them. Our goal is to reignite interest in these crafts, preserving their legacy and ensuring their importance for future generations.
To preserve our villages and cultural identity, it’s crucial to sustain these crafts. Our work ensures traditions endure, allowing future generations to continue them. By supporting Dharohar Foundation, you help preserve rural India’s essence and keep our culture alive, one craft at a time.
Join us in our mission to empower, preserve, and promote. Together, we can make a sustainable impact for our villages and our crafts.
